"Can he swing from a thread?" A bit of Spidey Science

I have always loved the interesting abilities of Spider-man so staying in theme with Amazing April i have decided to post the science behind my favorite aspects of Spidey, first the web slinging! Now to clarify unlike in the current Spider-man movies in the comics(at least the original and Amazing Spider-man comics) Spider-man's webs don't come from his body but from 2 web shooters filled with a fluid he designed, however we don't know Peter Parker's formula for his webbing so we will be analyzing the organic webbing. So lets dive in!

Now from the research i have gone through the type of webbing Spider-man uses is a spiders drag line silk which is much stronger than steel yet extremely flexible. This is due to the fact that this silk has a series of crystal as well as spring-like structures in its proteins. Now a strand of spider silk only about a tenth as thick as a human hair can stop insects flying at it at 15mph without breakage. Now if a strand that thin can stop that much then a thread that is half a millimeter would be able to adequately support a full grown man, a few more millimeters allows for Peter to swing some friends along with him. Scientific research also claims that if they could bring spider silk up to an inch in diameter it could stop a fighter jets momentum. Cool right?

Now you may say "Yes Adam that is cool but we could never make spider webs right?" Wrong! All we need is fibroid to make spider silk and already geneticists have created genetically modified goats that can produce fibroid protein molecules in their milk glands. However the fibroid protein molecules must still be separated from the milk and then spun. So therefore if can produce these proteins then all we need to do is grow spinnerets to spin them! Okay... so maybe it still is kinda impossible but with gene splicing these days who knows how long before its within our grasp.

Another amazing ability of his I always wished I had was the wall crawling and that's more possible now then ever. This one isn't genetically driven but is still incredible!
Engineers at Cornell University have created a device the size of your palm that uses the power of water to adhere to wood, glass and brick. Paul Steen a bio molecular engineer discovered that pumping tiny droplets of water through microscopic holes in a flat plate manipulated the surface tension of water allowing it to stick to other objects. Using an electrical field to pump the water through the holes, he was also able to reverse the process, allowing the plate to become unstuck on demand simply by changing the electric field. An early version of the device can hold weights of around one ounce using water droplets about a sixth the size of a pinhead! That's small!
The project is currently being funded by the military and is proving very successful.

Well that concludes our look at the science of Spider-man, i hope you all enjoyed and now i hope you'll pay attention to the walls and sides of buildings cause with this tech you never know who may be "hanging around".

It's Amazing April!

Okay so i realized that the post that i submitted at the beginning of April didn't post. It was announcing that in honor of it being April and my want to do a themed month, i decided this month its Amazing April, Amazing as in the Amazing Spider-man, so all month long my posts are going to be about every one's favorite web-slinger. It will feature reviews, movie info and ideas, and a bit of Spidey science, so enjoy a month dedicated to our Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-man!

P.S.
I realize i spelled Noir wrong on the title of the Spider-man Noir review, my apologies.

Spider-man Nior Review

In 2009 Marvel released a series of alternate universe comics called the Noir Series. These comics took several of the classic Marvel characters and placed them in the gritty 1920's and 30's. The character series' included were; Wolverine Noir, X-Men Noir, Punisher Noir, Like Cage Noir, Daredevil Noir, and soon to be released Iron Man Noir, however in keeping with the theme of "Amazing April" today we will be focusing on Spider-man Noir.

Out of all the Noir series I find this one is the best and most interesting.Written by David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky and artist Carmine Di Giandomenico It takes place in 1933 during The Great Depression, the reporter for the Daily Bugle, Ben Urich, is a man who runs a web of informants gathering information in the underworld under the alias of The Spider. He encounters Aunt May as she gives a rousing political speech to the victims of the depression she is greeted with hostility and violence by the enforcers of the underworld crime boss Norman Osborn, also called the Goblin. Before violence breaks out Ben Urich steps in to protect May. Peter Parker is then taken under Urich's wing, while working with Urich Peter gets a tip meant for Urich informing him that Goblins goons are bringing in a shipment of stolen antiques. When Peter ventures to the warehouse an antique statue of a spider breaks open releasing a mass of spiders, one of which bites Peter sending him into a dream in which he is confronted by a spider god who tells him he is now bestowed with the curse of power. Peter wakes up to find he is hanging upside down from a black web. He is now gifted with the abilities of our current spider-man only he has organic webbing instead of web shooters. With his new found abilities he decides he will take down the Goblin and put a stop to his crimes So in one of the coolest, most stylized outfits ever Peter dawns a black trench coat gloves and a bad ass black mask taking on the name of Spider-man.

I will spare the rest of the details for those wishing to read the comic.

This comic is great! It's a fantastic take on Spider-man filled with great action, amazing visuals, interesting takes on characters and good gritty story. It has classic villains like Chameleon, Kraven the Hunter, Vulture and cameos by Doc Ock, Kurt Connors and Sandman. The new origin as well as a darker Spider-man all in all makes this comic a must read.

My Spider-man Reboot Picks: Villains

Following up on my picks for the good guys and supporting cast for Spider-man, here are my picks for the villains. These also have been thought through. So here they are.

Fredric Lehne as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin: He is a tad old but he has the creepiness, and arrogance, not to mention a sleazy slickness. If you've seen him as the Yellow Eyed Demon Azazel I think you'll agree with me. Plus i can totally picture him in the suit.

John C. McGinley as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin: He is buff, plays scary, angry and crazy reeeally well and looks almost identical to Norman. The only downside to him is it will be really hard for anyone to not see him as Dr. Cox from Scrubs. Oh and this picture i didn't make, someone else did.

Jeffery Dean Morgan as Kraven the Hunter: Now i know J.D.M. has gotten lots of exposure lately what with Watchmen and The Losers but there's no one who looks more like him or can play a gun wielding mad hunter better.

Ben Kingsley as The Vulture: He is a very good actor, can seem very smart and pretentious, and looks very similar.

Jared Padalecki as Eddie Brock/Venom: Here's why, he's buff can play that he is kind, at the same time can play crazy and power hungry also he can play pitiful. If you wanna see the proof of those first watch the Supernatural episode Born Under A Bad Sign in Season 2 and then watch Season 4.

Cilian Murphy as Cletus Cassidy/Carnage: I know it's type casting with him playing the mentally disturbed Scarecrow in Batman, and the killer in Red Eye but he's just so good at it. This role gives him a chance to go even more crazy. I think he would just be great at it.

Sam Witwer as Mac Gargan/Scorpion: He has been Starkiller in Star Wars: Force Unleashed as well as the original Ice Truck killer suspect in Dexter. He plays smart and homicidal well.

Hayden Panettiere as Felicia Hardy/Black Cat: She is semi-acrobatic, pretty, sexy, and already has work playing a superhero. I just really don't want them to cast Meghan Fox.

Oliver Platt as Doctor Octopus: Personally i liked Alfred Molina as Doc Oc. I thought he was a very good fit but if they have to choose another i like Oliver Platt. he resembles him alot and he can play a good villain.

Matt Dillon as Electro: I think he just looks the most like him and i can just see him as Electro.

Hugh Laurie as Dr.Curt Connors/Lizard: He plays a good doctor and i can picture him become this monster, the Dr.Connors from the last Spider-man movie was just to fragile and quiet to envision as a monster.

John Cena as Rhino: Okay now i personally don't like wrestlers trying to really act, other than The Rock, but Cena has the mass and enough acting skills to play The Rhino. Not to mention thanks to wrestling he can get thrown around and throw others around.

Well that's all my picks for the Spider-man reboot. I hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading!

My Spider-man Reboot Picks: Good Guys

My picks for the Spider-man Reboot: Good Guys. I've searched around and thought through alot of people and i think i've made good choices, based on character, resemblance in appearance and acting ability. Also i want to remind that this one is supposed to be when Peter is in high school so he needs to be younger. So without further adieu my picks.

Logan Lerman as Peter Parker/Spider-man: He's a realtively new actor, he's charming geeky scrawny but he did great in Percy Jackson & The Olympians, especially when he discovers he had powers, very Peter like. Also he was good in Gamer. Now also Spider-man needs to be funny and sarcastic (Something Maguire seriously lacked) it makes him who he is and i think Lerman can pull it off

Anton Yelchin as Peter Parker: He is also a very good actor who despite being in Star Trek is still relatively under radar, he is geeky and funny.

Maggie Smith as Aunt May: She is a very talented and dignified actress. She can be stern wise and very sweet as demonstratd in Harry Potter.

Emily Browning as Mary Jane Watson: She is pretty, has a very infectious smile, good actress, young yet gorgeous and very sweet.

Chace Crawford as Harry Osborn: Has a play boy rich kid look yet can play a good and decent person.

Alona Tal as Gwen Stacy: She is a great actress, most will know her as Jo from Supernatural, pretty and strong.

Lastly, J. Jonah Jameson: I suggest no one but J.K. Simmons he was the embodiment of J.J.J. in the original Spider-man movies. I think there has never been someone so perfectly cast so hire him back but don't replace him.

Well that's my picks for the Spider-Man recast, I want to remind readers that these are my opinions and you don't have to agree. Let me know what you think. Next up villians casting suggestions.

Chris Evans Has Been Cast As Captain America

Okay after all the rumors and all the anticipation Capain America has been cast! I have to say after all the anticipation and names thrown out I am dissappointed that is is Chris Evans(Fantastic 4, and Push as well as the Losers) I personally do not find him to be a serious enough actor for the roll that the Cap requires, also I love him as the Human Torch in the Fantastic 4 movies personally i think he was the best part and i dont like him being two people in the same comic universe. To me that's like Christian Bale being Batman as well as Lex Luthor in Superman, it just is off. However, Chris Evans supposedly has done 2 great serious roles, one being Danny Boyles 'Sunshine'. Also he knows from constant fan comments that he has to act his butt off(not overacting though) to pull off this role because Cap is a huge player in the Marvel Universe. Soooo I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and trust that he will bring Captain America to life with the same strength that Robert Downey did for Iron Man. Further more he does have the body and chin(as shown above) and his chances to be two superheroes all ready i think gives him an advantage so i say congrats Chris I hope you do well and if you don't i'll kill you hahaha just kidding...maybe @.@
