Spider-man Nior Review

In 2009 Marvel released a series of alternate universe comics called the Noir Series. These comics took several of the classic Marvel characters and placed them in the gritty 1920's and 30's. The character series' included were; Wolverine Noir, X-Men Noir, Punisher Noir, Like Cage Noir, Daredevil Noir, and soon to be released Iron Man Noir, however in keeping with the theme of "Amazing April" today we will be focusing on Spider-man Noir.

Out of all the Noir series I find this one is the best and most interesting.Written by David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky and artist Carmine Di Giandomenico It takes place in 1933 during The Great Depression, the reporter for the Daily Bugle, Ben Urich, is a man who runs a web of informants gathering information in the underworld under the alias of The Spider. He encounters Aunt May as she gives a rousing political speech to the victims of the depression she is greeted with hostility and violence by the enforcers of the underworld crime boss Norman Osborn, also called the Goblin. Before violence breaks out Ben Urich steps in to protect May. Peter Parker is then taken under Urich's wing, while working with Urich Peter gets a tip meant for Urich informing him that Goblins goons are bringing in a shipment of stolen antiques. When Peter ventures to the warehouse an antique statue of a spider breaks open releasing a mass of spiders, one of which bites Peter sending him into a dream in which he is confronted by a spider god who tells him he is now bestowed with the curse of power. Peter wakes up to find he is hanging upside down from a black web. He is now gifted with the abilities of our current spider-man only he has organic webbing instead of web shooters. With his new found abilities he decides he will take down the Goblin and put a stop to his crimes So in one of the coolest, most stylized outfits ever Peter dawns a black trench coat gloves and a bad ass black mask taking on the name of Spider-man.

I will spare the rest of the details for those wishing to read the comic.

This comic is great! It's a fantastic take on Spider-man filled with great action, amazing visuals, interesting takes on characters and good gritty story. It has classic villains like Chameleon, Kraven the Hunter, Vulture and cameos by Doc Ock, Kurt Connors and Sandman. The new origin as well as a darker Spider-man all in all makes this comic a must read.
